Alfonso XI stands in the Jerónimos district, one of Madrid's most exclusive quarters, moments from the Puerta de Alcalá and the Retiro. Merlin Properties' rehabilitation by Ruiz Barbarin Arquitectos updates spaces, envelope, and systems, adapting the building to the contemporary model of work.

This project extended our collaboration with Merlin Properties into Spain. The imagery follows the same rules as its Lisbon counterpart, with an aerial view situating the building in its privileged surroundings, exteriors that respect the sobriety of the district, and interiors that make the renewed quality of the workspace tangible.

Rendering offices in a heritage-dense district calls for a light touch: believable Madrid light, materials that neither shout nor apologise, and compositions that let the location's prestige do its own work.
